Dominican Foreign Minister Ito Bisonó outlines vision for modernized diplomacy

Dominican Republic's Foreign Minister Víctor "Ito" Bisonó has announced a strategic vision for the nation's foreign policy, prioritizing the modernization and professionalization of the diplomatic corps. His administration aims to create a more responsive and results-oriented Ministry of Foreign Affairs capable of navigating the complexities of the international landscape.

Bisonó articulated key objectives during a presentation to accredited diplomats, international organizations, and the consular corps. These include enhancing the protection and engagement of Dominicans living abroad, actively promoting exports and foreign investment, and vigorously defending the country's national interests, democratic values, and principles of international coexistence. He stressed that the foreign policy will align with President Luis Abinader's directives, focusing on generating development opportunities.

"We will continue strengthening institutionalism and deepening the professionalization of the foreign service," Bisonó stated. He also highlighted the challenge of adapting the ministry to an increasingly complex and dynamic global environment. The minister identified the protection of Dominicans abroad, export promotion, investment attraction, and the defense of democracy and human rights as central pillars of his agenda.

Furthermore, Bisonó underscored the importance of fortifying bilateral relationships to deepen existing ties and explore new avenues for cooperation. He reaffirmed the Dominican Republic's commitment to multilateralism, international law, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts, recognizing the necessity of expanded international cooperation to address transnational challenges.
