Dominican Man Allegedly Confessed Murder-Suicide Plans to Sister

A domestic tragedy has shaken Hainamosa in the Santo Domingo Este municipality of the Dominican Republic, where a retired Army officer, Jesús Jáquez, allegedly killed his wife, Ramonita Aquino, before taking his own life. The incident occurred despite clear warning signs, including a chilling confession Jáquez made to his sister.

Dominga Jáquez recounted that her brother told her, "The enemy tells me to kill everyone, but if I kill someone, I kill her and then I kill myself." These words foreshadowed the actions of a man who had reportedly been hospitalized multiple times for severe psychiatric problems and depression. His sister described recurring crises where he claimed to hear voices ordering him to commit violence, though he always promised not to harm their children.

The couple, married for an unspecified duration but separated for months, were living under the same roof, each occupying separate rooms. "He suffered because he loved his wife, but she no longer wanted anything to do with him," Dominga explained. Despite her advice for Aquino to leave the house, the couple remained in proximity.

Dominga last saw her brother the day before the crime, noting he seemed unusually cheerful. However, she later received a voice message where he thanked her for her support, followed by confessions of homicidal thoughts amidst episodes of crying, shouting, and claims of hearing commanding voices. The family was unaware that Jáquez possessed a firearm, which Dominga had previously searched for in the home.

The couple's two sons, aged 16 and 14, are now orphaned by the incident. An ex-wife of Jáquez questioned how a retired military man with psychiatric issues, diabetes, and significant vision loss could retain a service weapon.
