Dominican Republic has two long weekends left in 2026

The Dominican Republic’s official work calendar has two long weekends remaining in 2026. The first will come in November, when Constitution Day’s day off moves from Friday, Nov. 6, to Monday, Nov. 9. People who work Monday through Friday will have three consecutive days off, from Saturday through Monday.

The second long weekend will arrive at Christmas. Dec. 25 falls on a Friday, and Law 139-97 lists Christmas among the holidays that cannot be transferred. The break therefore runs from Friday, Dec. 25, through Sunday, Dec. 27.

Christmas Eve will fall on Thursday, Dec. 24, but it is not a national holiday. New Year’s Eve, Thursday, Dec. 31, also does not appear as a statutory holiday. New Year’s Day 2027 will fall on Friday, Jan. 1, creating another three-day break through Sunday, Jan. 3.

Before those dates, the next holiday is Our Lady of Mercedes Day on Thursday, Sept. 24. It remains fixed. Under Law 139-97, holidays falling on Tuesday or Wednesday generally move to the preceding Monday, while those falling on Thursday or Friday move to the following Monday. The law exempts several dates, including New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Our Lady of Altagracia Day, Our Lady of Mercedes Day and Christmas.
