Dominican Republic's 'Reinas del Caribe' win seventh straight volleyball crown undefeated

The Dominican Republic's 'Reinas del Caribe' have once again claimed the championship title at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, marking their seventh consecutive victory. Their dominance was absolute, as they went undefeated through the tournament, dropping only a single set in the group stage. This latest triumph solidifies women's volleyball in the Dominican Republic as more than just a winning streak; it's a deeply ingrained competitive culture.

The foundation for this sustained success was laid over three decades ago. Following a painful defeat in 1993, coach Cristóbal Marte declared that the history of Dominican women's volleyball would begin the following year. This bold prediction signaled a shift from short-term team preparation to a long-term project focused on building a national team capable of decades of success. The arrival of Cuban coach Jorge Pérez Vento in 1994 and the establishment of a structured program formalized this ambitious vision.

Thirty-two years later, Marte's prophecy has materialized. The final match against Colombia was a testament to the team's authority, with scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-21 reflecting their control. Playing on home soil, the 'Reinas' embraced the pressure, transforming the weight of history into an advantage. Despite Colombia's efforts to stay close, the Dominican team dictated the decisive moments with their offensive rhythm, culminating in another clear demonstration of their prowess.
