Dominican Republic tourism exceeds 7.7 million visitors by July, eyes 12 million target

Dominican tourism has experienced a remarkable surge, welcoming 7,700,118 visitors from January to July 2026. This figure represents a 7% growth over the 7.1 million visitors recorded during the same period in 2025, signaling a robust recovery and expansion of the sector.

Minister of Tourism David Collado described the results as "extraordinary" and expressed confidence that the country is on track to receive over 12 million visitors by the close of 2025. This projection is not only higher than last year's figures but also significantly surpasses pre-pandemic levels, showing a 59.6% increase compared to 2024 arrivals.

The strong performance in July, which saw 1,083,448 visitors, contributed significantly to the year-to-date numbers. This influx included 921,718 passengers arriving by air and 161,730 cruise ship passengers. The tourism boom generated substantial economic benefits, including RD$8.73 billion in taxes, RD$11.59 billion in payments to suppliers, and RD$4.77 billion in hotel payroll.

North America remains the dominant source region for tourists, accounting for 58% of arrivals, primarily from the United States. However, Colombia showed the most significant growth in tourist contributions compared to the previous year, with a 22.1% increase. The data also highlights strong occupancy rates in key tourist destinations, with Bayahíbe reaching 92% and La Romana at 83% in July.
