Dong Thap adds 74 AI cameras to boost 'cold fines' from July

Dong Thap province in Vietnam is significantly enhancing its traffic management system by deploying an additional 74 artificial intelligence (AI) cameras, bringing the total to 144 operational units by July 2026.

The new AI cameras will be strategically installed along major routes, including National Highways 30, 54, and 80, as well as the N2B route and urban centers within the Hồng Ngự, Sa Đéc, and Cao Lãnh districts. Once integrated into the central command center, these cameras will automatically detect numerous traffic violations that are primary causes of accidents.

Currently, Dong Thap utilizes over 700 traffic surveillance cameras, with nearly 70 AI-equipped cameras already in operation. These existing cameras can identify and record offenses such as running red lights, improper lane usage, illegal stopping or parking, failure to wear helmets, and speeding. In the first half of 2026, the traffic police reported sending violation notices to over 14,000 cases detected through the camera system.

The application of AI technology is credited with improving the efficiency of patrols and control operations. It ensures that violations are processed objectively and transparently, minimizing the chances of missed or inaccurate enforcement. The provincial police anticipate that the expanded AI camera network will further strengthen surveillance on critical routes, enabling prompt detection and xử lý of violations.

Authorities believe that this technological advancement will contribute to a reduction in traffic accidents, alleviate congestion, and foster a safer and more civilized traffic environment within Dong Thap province. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to leverage technology for enhanced public safety and order.
