Double alert activated for heavy rains; hail forecast in 8 boroughs

Authorities in Mexico City have activated a double alert, warning of heavy rains and hail across eight of the capital's boroughs. The Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) issued the warnings as a precautionary measure against severe weather.

Tlalpan borough is under an orange alert, anticipating rainfall between 30 and 49 millimeters, accompanied by hail. This alert is in effect from 1:35 PM to 11:00 PM. Concurrently, a yellow alert remains active for seven other boroughs: Álvaro Obregón, Coyoacán, Cuajimalpa, Magdalena Contreras, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac, and Xochimilco.

In these yellow alert zones, rainfall is expected to range from 15 to 29 millimeters, also with the possibility of hail, during the same time frame. Residents are strongly advised to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and minimize potential damage.

Recommendations include carrying umbrellas or raincoats, avoiding travel through flooded streets, and exercising caution while driving due to potential debris. Citizens are also urged to clear gutters and drainage systems of trash and other obstructions to prevent water accumulation and potential flooding.
