DPR member urges Bengkulu residents to support 2026 National Economic Census

Dewi Coryati, a member of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), has appealed to all residents of Bengkulu to actively participate in and ensure the success of the 2026 National Economic Census (SEN 2026). The call was made during a discussion organized by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in Rejang Lebong.

Coryati emphasized that support from various regional stakeholders is vital for a smooth data collection process and to ensure the accuracy of the results. The Forum Group Discussion (FGD) served as a platform to align efforts and perceptions among government officials, census workers, business actors, the public, students, and other stakeholders. This initiative represents a tangible synergy between DPR Commission X and BPS to guarantee the economic census proceeds without hindrance.

Addressing public concerns about detailed questions regarding monthly expenses, electricity costs, housing status, income, and gas cylinder types, Coryati reassured residents that their answers should be accurate and provided without hesitation. She stressed that the census is not linked to tax assessments and that the data will not be misused.

The public does not need to worry about providing answers to the census officers, because this census is not related to the amount of tax to be paid and the data will not be misused.

Coryati outlined three fundamental reasons for the importance of SEN 2026 for regional and national development. Firstly, the census data serves as a navigational tool for government policy, guiding development efforts amidst post-pandemic changes and the digital era. Secondly, the data is a primary reference for legislative and executive bodies in budget preparation, oversight, and regulation formulation, influencing programs like business support, digital capacity building, and educational scholarships.

Thirdly, the census data is instrumental in mapping local economic potential, particularly in Rejang Lebong. With valid data, new growth sectors can receive targeted interventions to accelerate regional economic development. The SEN 2026 in the Rejang Lebong BPS work area involves 15 sub-districts and 241 field data collectors, with the census activities scheduled to continue until August 31, 2026.
