DRC government prioritizes merit in state enterprise leadership selection

The Democratic Republic of Congo's government is embarking on a significant reform of its state-owned enterprises, aiming to replace political appointments with a system based on merit, competence, and transparency. This move signals a departure from past practices where leadership positions were often allocated based on political affiliations.

Minister of State Portfolio has initiated a competitive selection process for management roles in fifteen vital state companies. These include prominent entities such as Snel (National Electricity Company), La Regideso (National Water Distribution Company), Rva (Airports Authority), Ontra (Office of Transport), and Sncc (National Railway Company of Congo).

The application window for these positions is open until August 14, 2026. Candidates must meet specific age criteria, being at least 25 and no older than 70 years old. This initiative seeks to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of public enterprises by ensuring that qualified individuals lead these critical sectors of the Congolese economy.
