Drug syndicate busted in Johor, RM8.49 million worth of narcotics seized

Johor police have dismantled a significant drug trafficking operation, confiscating narcotics valued at RM8.49 million. The bust occurred after authorities discovered a syndicate using a guarded apartment complex in Persiaran Senibong, Masai, as a storage facility for their illicit goods.

During a targeted operation on Wednesday morning, the Johor Contingent Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department apprehended two Malaysian men, aged 30 and 34. The initial raid on an apartment in Seri Alam, Masai, led to the arrest of the first suspect and the seizure of a substantial quantity of drugs, totaling 96.76 kilograms. This haul included 132,600 Erimin 5 pills, 53,000 ecstasy tablets, 290 packets of ecstasy powder, 13 packets of ketamine, and two packets of MDMA powder.

Authorities estimate that the seized drugs could have been distributed to approximately 392,098 addicts had they reached the local market. A subsequent raid on a two-story terrace house in Taman Ehsan Jaya, Desa Cemerlang, led to the arrest of a second suspect, believed to be an associate of the first. This individual allegedly assisted the syndicate's mastermind by managing the payment of wages for the storekeepers. While both suspects tested negative for drugs, criminal records checks revealed past offenses. In addition to the drug seizure, assets worth RM945,000, including four vehicles, a BMW M4, Toyota Vellfire, Honda City Hatchback, and Proton Saga, were confiscated under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.
