Drunk Driver Crashes Into Tea Shop, Killing 87-Year-Old Owner in Taiwan

A fatal crash in Taichung, Taiwan, has led to charges against a man who drove under the influence of methamphetamine, killing an 87-year-old tea shop owner. The incident occurred last October when the driver, identified as 44-year-old Liu Guan-yi, ran a red light while speeding in his BMW.

Liu's vehicle crashed directly into the tea shop located on Wuquan Road in the West District. The impact killed the owner, identified by her surname Chang, who was reportedly sleeping inside the premises at the time. The owner's son was also injured in the collision.

Following his arrest, Liu was indicted on multiple charges, including causing death while driving under the influence of drugs. The prosecution is seeking justice for the victim and her family, highlighting the severe consequences of impaired driving.

Authorities are emphasizing the dangers of drug-impaired driving, particularly the risks associated with methamphetamine use, which can severely impair judgment and reaction times, leading to tragic outcomes like this one.
