Drunk man suspected of setting two cars ablaze in Klaipėda

Police in Klaipėda are investigating a series of suspected arson incidents that occurred early Friday morning, with a drunk man taken into custody.

At approximately 0:05 a.m. on Birutė Street, a Volvo XC60 parked in an underground lot caught fire, damaging its rear right side. Just over an hour later, around 1:15 a.m., another fire erupted in a different underground parking area on Taikos Avenue. The vehicle involved, a Mazda 121, was completely destroyed.

Authorities have arrested a man suspected of involvement in these fires. He was found to have a blood alcohol content of 1.85 permille and has been placed in a detention center. An investigation into property destruction has been initiated. Additionally, police are looking into other suspected arson incidents reported on Tulpių Street around the same time, where storage units belonging to residents of two buildings may have been set ablaze. The extent of the damage in these cases is still being determined.
