Dry Season Sparks Fire Surge in Cirebon, 14 Incidents in One Day

Cirebon Regency is experiencing a severe surge in fire incidents, with the dry season of 2026 proving particularly devastating. By July, the Cirebon Fire and Rescue Service (Disdamkarmat) had recorded 168 fire incidents, already exceeding the 156 cases reported throughout the entire previous year of 2025.

Throughout July, there were a total of 77 fire incidents.

The intensity of the fires peaked in July, when firefighters responded to 77 incidents within a single month. Land fires were the most frequent, comprising 54 of these cases. Additionally, 18 residential homes, two shops, and three factories were affected by fires during this period. Officials noted that on some days in July, firefighters were simultaneously battling up to 14 different fires.

Disdamkarmat's evaluation indicates that most residential fires are caused by electrical short circuits, often stemming from non-standard electrical installations. The head of the fire suppression division, Eno Sujana, stressed the need for heightened public awareness during the dry season.

In July alone, we even extinguished fires at 14 different points in a single day.

Sujana advised residents to avoid overloading electrical outlets, unplugging unnecessary devices when leaving home, and ensuring stoves are completely turned off. Regular checks of electrical installations and the use of appropriate cable sizes were also recommended to prevent short circuits. The public was also reminded to exercise caution with open flames, particularly when clearing land or disposing of cigarette butts, to prevent the spread of fires.
