DZVM: Unacceptable Political Influence on Media Under Hungarian National Council; 'Shocked' by Pastor's Statement

The Democratic Community of Vojvodina Hungarians (DZVM) has voiced strong condemnation regarding what it describes as unacceptable political interference in media outlets under the purview of the Hungarian National Council (MNS). The DZVM stated it was 'shocked' by recent remarks from Balint Pastor, the president of the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians (SVM). According to the DZVM, Pastor's statements effectively acknowledge a level of political control exerted by the SVM leadership over media whose founding rights have been transferred to the MNS. This alleged political influence, the DZVM argues, has systematically excluded other political viewpoints within the Hungarian community, creating a non-pluralistic media landscape. The DZVM specifically pointed to Pastor's admission of having 'intervened' with the MNS president, Arpad Fremond, to grant opposition figures limited space in the 'Mađar so' newspaper and on Panon RTV. This, the DZVM contends, confirms a selective approach to public information, contradicting the principles of impartial and objective reporting expected from publicly funded media. The organization insists that access should not be dictated by political agreements but by professional standards, ensuring that opposition voices are not merely granted limited and delayed visibility. The DZVM urges Pastor and Fremond to immediately establish the professional independence of these media and guarantee equitable access for all political representatives of the Vojvodina Hungarian community, emphasizing that the community's true interest lies in free, pluralistic, and genuinely public information, not a controlled public sphere.
