Ebonyi LG Polls: APC begins campaign, urges peaceful mobilization

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria's Ebonyi State has officially kicked off its campaign for the upcoming August 22 local government and councillorship elections. Party officials are urging supporters to prioritize peaceful electioneering, grassroots mobilization, and the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the polls.

The campaign flag-off took place in the Ikwo Local Government Area. During the event, Governor Francis Nwifuru, represented by Deputy Governor Patricia Obila, formally presented the party's flag to Henry Chidi Nwode, the APC chairmanship candidate for Ikwo LGA, and his running mate. Obila described the APC candidates as "tested, trusted, and marketable," encouraging party faithful to engage in issue-based campaigns and avoid any actions that could disrupt the peaceful conduct of the elections.

She also commended the outgoing Ikwo Local Government Area Chairman, Barrister Sunday Nwankwo, for his contributions to peace, unity, and development within the council.

Chief Martin Elechi, former Governor of Ebonyi State and chairman of the event, called for peaceful conduct among political actors and respect for citizens' rights to associate with any party. "We are not here to fight anybody. Every citizen has the constitutional right to belong to any political party. Nobody should intimidate or attack another because of political differences. Let us conduct ourselves lawfully and peacefully throughout this campaign period," Elechi advised. He expressed confidence in the APC's victory, citing the popularity of Governor Nwifuru's administration, but cautioned against violence and public disorder.
