Ecatepec government begins renovation of emblematic sports center; will reopen in August

Ecatepec is breathing new life into one of its most significant public spaces with the comprehensive renovation of the 'Siervo de la Nación' sports center. After years of neglect and private exploitation, the local government, under Mayor Azucena Cisneros Coss, has initiated a project to restore the facility to its former glory and, crucially, ensure it serves the community without charge.

We found several places here that were exploited for many years, denying the right to recreation and sports to the residents of Ecatepec.

The transformation promises a modern sports complex, featuring a new wooden basketball court, a tartan track for athletics, and revitalized gym and swimming pool facilities. Beyond these core amenities, the project includes dedicated areas for calisthenics, children's play, boxing, and even a skate park and a dog park. This holistic approach aims to cater to a wide range of recreational needs for Ecatepec residents, reinforcing the administration's commitment to providing quality public services.

This sports center is emblematic. In August, it will be open to the public, finished, remodeled, but most importantly, when all the activities held here open, including the pool, they will be completely free. Never again will public spaces be exploited to charge people, never again.

Mayor Cisneros Coss emphasized that the reopening in August will mark a new era for the sports center, where all activities, including the swimming pool, will be entirely free. This move directly addresses the historical issue of public spaces being "usufructed" – used for private gain – denying residents their right to recreation. The recovery of this emblematic facility is part of a broader municipal effort to reclaim and revitalize public spaces across Ecatepec, ensuring they are accessible and beneficial to all citizens.

We are recovering many public spaces throughout the municipality, many sports centers, many things that were invaded that we have been cleaning up and that will become linear parks; some are already finished and others we are finishing.
