Egypt 'will not allow' new Ethiopian dams, says media figure

Egyptian media figure Ahmed Moussa has strongly criticized Ethiopian remarks regarding the construction of new dams, interpreting them as a strategic move to exert pressure on Egypt and Sudan. Moussa asserted that Egypt will firmly oppose any new dam projects initiated by Ethiopia.

Speaking on his program "Ala Mas'oliyeti" (On My Responsibility) aired on Sada El-Balad channel, Moussa argued that Ethiopia is attempting to leverage the current regional instability to advance its agenda of building more dams. He specifically referenced the dam that Ethiopia began constructing in 2011, stating it has already negatively affected Egypt, particularly due to a lack of coordination in water management and dam gate operations.

Moussa declared that Egypt will not permit Ethiopia to construct further dams, emphasizing that the existing dam, despite not yielding the expected benefits for Ethiopia, has created adverse consequences for Egypt. He accused Addis Ababa of "stubbornness," which he cited as the reason for Egypt's suspension of negotiations with Ethiopia.
