Temperatures are reaching record highs, Egypt’s Meteorological Authority warns

Egypt is bracing for a significant heatwave, as the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) issues a warning of persistently hot and humid weather conditions. The authority forecasts that daytime temperatures will remain high across most of the country, while nights and early mornings will be slightly hot and humid.

High humidity levels are expected to increase the perceived temperature by two to four degrees Celsius, making the heat feel more intense, particularly in the afternoons. Southern Upper Egypt is predicted to be the most affected region, with maximum temperatures potentially reaching 43°C and perceived temperatures hitting 44°C on some days. Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt will experience highs between 37°C and 40°C, while the northern coast will see temperatures ranging from 34°C to 38°C.

In addition to the heat, the EMA also alerted the public to the possibility of fog formation on several roads from 4 AM to 8 AM. This includes routes in Greater Cairo, the Suez Canal cities, central Sinai, and northern Upper Egypt, with fog potentially becoming dense on some stretches. Occasional wind activity is also predicted from Wednesday to Saturday in parts of South Sinai, the Red Sea, the western coast, Greater Cairo, and southern Egypt.

The EMA urges citizens to stay informed by following weather bulletins and updates. They also advise exercising caution while driving during periods of fog. The authority emphasized the importance of heeding these warnings due to the combined effects of high temperatures and humidity.
