Eight South Koreans Missing, Ten Stranded After Nepal Flood at Hydroelectric Plant Site

A sudden flood in Nepal's Rasuwa region has left eight South Korean nationals missing and ten others stranded while they were engaged in the construction of a hydroelectric power plant. The incident occurred on the morning of August 26th, local time.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the eight missing individuals are employees of Korea South-East Power and Doosan Enerbility, companies involved in the power plant project. The Nepalese government has mobilized its army and police forces to the affected area to conduct search and rescue operations. Additionally, helicopters have been deployed to assist in rescuing the ten stranded South Koreans.

Upon learning of the situation, the South Korean Embassy in Nepal promptly informed the Nepalese government and requested swift and thorough search and rescue efforts. A consular official has been dispatched to the scene to provide support and gather information.

President Lee Jae-myung has issued an urgent directive, emphasizing that the safety and lives of South Korean citizens are paramount. He has ordered a comprehensive response, utilizing all available resources to locate and rescue the missing individuals. The government is also focused on supporting the families of those affected and ensuring the safety of other South Korean nationals in Nepal, while working to prevent any further harm.
