Elafonissi: Parking attendant and owner arrested for illegal customer solicitation

Police in Kissamos, Greece, have arrested a parking attendant and the owner of a parking facility near the popular Elafonissi beach. The arrests occurred within hours of each other following complaints about illegal customer solicitation practices.

Officers from the Kissamos Police Department, working undercover in plain clothes and a civilian vehicle, visited the area on Friday. They apprehended a parking lot employee accused of soliciting customers and creating dangerous traffic obstructions. According to reports, the attendant, wearing a high-visibility vest, stood in the middle of the road, directing vehicles into the parking lot. Unbeknownst to him, one of the vehicles he stopped contained plainclothes officers investigating the complaints.

Following the attendant's arrest and transport to the police station, officers returned to the scene. They found the owner of the parking business in the same position, directing a driver into his lot without realizing he was dealing with another undercover officer. This led to the second arrest.

Both individuals were arrested under the "flagrante delicto" procedure, meaning they were apprehended in the act. They will be brought before the Chania Court of First Instance. Charges filed against them include illegal customer solicitation and dangerous interference with road traffic.
