Suspect in 2010 Marfin Bank Arson Extradited from UK to Greece

A 46-year-old woman, accused of involvement in the deadly 2010 Marfin Bank arson, has been extradited from Britain to Greece to face charges. She arrived in Athens on Thursday evening, accompanied by officers from the Hellenic FBI, and spent the night in custody at the General Police Directorate of Attica.

Her extradition follows her arrest at Gatwick Airport on July 13th, shortly before she was due to board a flight to Athens. An Interpol red notice had been issued by Greek authorities. The woman, who had been living in Brighton for six years with her family, reportedly contacted homicide officers upon learning she was implicated, proclaiming her innocence and expressing a desire to cooperate with the justice system.

Greek authorities reportedly identified the suspect through advanced forensic analysis, including artificial intelligence, of surveillance footage from the day of the incident. The analysis focused on physical characteristics, clothing, and accessories. Police identified the woman by her height, hair, ears, attire, shoes, and backpack, noting she appeared in a supporting role next to the individual who smashed the bank's window and threw flammable materials inside.

The Marfin Bank branch in Athens was firebombed during a protest on May 5, 2010. The attack resulted in the deaths of three employees, including a pregnant woman, who were trapped inside. Authorities allege the woman belonged to a group of anti-establishment individuals who planned the attack, with specific roles assigned for throwing Molotov cocktails and providing support. Two other 42-year-old men are considered key suspects in the case.
