Elderly driver critically injured after SUV crashes into traffic light pole in Taiwan

A 77-year-old woman is fighting for her life after her SUV veered off the road and slammed into a traffic light pole on Provincial Highway 1 in Miaoli County, Taiwan. The severe impact left the vehicle heavily deformed and trapped the driver inside.

Emergency services responded swiftly to the accident, which occurred around 3 p.m. on Thursday. Firefighters from the Zaoqiao and Houlong stations used specialized equipment to extract the woman from the wreckage. She was found unconscious and in critical condition, suffering from bleeding in the right side of her brain and a fractured cervical spine.

Preliminary investigations by the police suggest the vehicle was traveling south on Provincial Highway 1 towards Houlong when it inexplicably veered off the road. The SUV then collided with a flashing yellow traffic light pole on the outer shoulder. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
