Elderly pedestrian dies after being hit by car on crosswalk in Gwangju

A tragic accident in Gwangju has resulted in the death of a pedestrian in their 70s. The incident occurred on a road in Seo-gu when the individual was struck by a passenger car while crossing at a crosswalk.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as a woman also in her 70s, has been booked by the Seo-gu police on charges related to violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents, specifically causing death. Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision, nor was she driving without a license.

Following the collision, the pedestrian sustained severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite medical efforts, the individual succumbed to their injuries. The police have secured surrounding CCTV footage and vehicle black box recordings to thoroughly investigate the precise sequence of events that led to the fatal accident.
