Environmental groups call for march to defend Chuburná Puerto Dunes, seeking to halt real estate development

Environmental organizations are calling for a peaceful march to protect the Chuburná Puerto Dunes in Yucatán, denouncing a real estate development project that threatens the region's coastal ecosystem.

The collective 'Salvemos las Dunas' announced on social media that the march will take place on Friday, starting at the Monumento a la Patria and proceeding to the Plaza Grande. The primary objective is to pressure authorities to halt the 'Las Dunas' Tourist Complex, whose developers are allegedly using heavy machinery for systematic vegetation removal in a protected natural area.

Activists claim these operations are being conducted opaquely, without prior free and informed consultation with the Chuburná Puerto community. They assert this violates citizens' rights to information and effective participation in territorial decisions.

The demonstration will demand that all three levels of government revoke environmental authorizations, immediately cease vegetation clearing, and initiate an audit and investigation into responsibilities. The groups also seek comprehensive protection, reparations for damages, and a guarantee of public consultation to stop the real estate project.
