Sheinbaum highlights Acapulco's recovery post-hurricanes, cancels La Parota dam project

President Claudia Sheinbaum declared Acapulco is advancing in its economic and tourist recovery following the devastation of hurricanes Otis and John. She attributed this progress primarily to the resilience and hard work of the port's residents.

You have seen, we are improving the tourist side. Acapulco now has 78% occupancy and I am sure it will grow during the summer. Practically all jobs, all services have been recovered.

During an event at the Cici Renacimiento Sports Center, Sheinbaum highlighted that Acapulco currently boasts a hotel occupancy rate of 78%, a figure she expects to rise during the summer vacation period. She noted that nearly all jobs and services impacted by the natural disasters have been restored.

"You have seen, we are improving the tourist side. Acapulco now has 78% occupancy and I am sure it will grow during the summer. Practically all jobs, all services have been recovered," she stated.

It is thanks above all to one thing: the people of Acapulco, the people of Guerrero who are first-class men and women, workers, who always, in any circumstance, move forward.

The president also announced the definitive cancellation of the La Parota hydroelectric dam project. She explained that the project would have significantly impacted rural communities around Acapulco. Instead, the federal government will develop a system of wells and elevated tanks to ensure a reliable potable water supply for the port, with water reaching colonies via gravity.

Yesterday I informed all the rural area of Acapulco that the La Parota dam project is canceled. We are not going to do that anymore because it affected the communities a lot.

Sheinbaum, accompanied by Governor Evelyn Salgado, also mentioned ongoing sanitation projects to reduce river pollution and dredging work aimed at improving the port's infrastructure.

We are building these wells to bring water to Acapulco. In addition, they will be high tanks that allow water to reach the different colonies by gravity.
