Estonian pensioner found guilty of assaulting 91-year-old choir mate

An elderly man in Estonia faces charges for a violent assault on his 91-year-old choir companion, an incident that has left deep scars on all involved. The accused, identified as Voldemārs, 88, was reportedly driving his choir mate, Adeleide, home after a singing practice.

As Voldemārs stopped his car outside Adeleide's house, his partner, Līdija, 70, suddenly appeared. Without warning, Līdija allegedly entered the back seat, pulled off Adeleide's hat, grabbed her by the hair, and began to pull her. This aggressive act unfolded despite Voldemārs having assisted Adeleide with transportation to and from choir rehearsals for several years.

While the minutes following the assault undoubtedly altered the lives of Adeleide and Voldemārs, the most profound impact has been on Līdija. Previously, in her long life up to the 2023 incident, Līdija had no criminal record. However, she has now been found guilty in court of applying physical violence and causing severe bodily harm to Adeleide.
