Police Seize Nearly 1 Kilogram of Amphetamine in Daugavpils

Law enforcement in Daugavpils has seized a significant quantity of amphetamine as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into illegal drug trafficking. During procedural actions on July 30, officers arrested a 1987-born man. A search of the suspect's residence in Daugavpils led to the discovery of 976 grams of amphetamine. Additionally, officers found a cigarette filled with a greenish-brown, marijuana-like substance, three cartridges, and a gas pistol. The investigation continued, leading to the apprehension of a second man, who was found to be in possession of five grams of amphetamine. Both individuals are now subject to criminal proceedings under Article 253, Part 2 of the Criminal Law. This section addresses the illegal manufacture, acquisition, possession, transportation, and distribution of narcotic or psychotropic substances, particularly when committed by a group after prior agreement or in large quantities. Convicted individuals face imprisonment ranging from three to 10 years, with or without confiscation of property, and up to three years of supervised probation. The State Police reiterated that no individual is considered guilty until their culpability is proven according to legal procedures.
