EU allocates funds for road and rail link between Alexandroupoli and Bulgarian ports

A significant boost for regional connectivity has been announced with the European Union's allocation of substantial funds for a crucial infrastructure project linking Greece and Bulgaria. The EU has committed €277 million towards developing a vital road and rail connection that will integrate the Greek port city of Alexandroupoli with the Bulgarian Black Sea ports of Burgas and Varna.

This investment, formally handed over by the European Commissioner for Sustainable Tourism and Transport, Apostolos Dzijdzikostas, to the Greek Minister of Infrastructure, signifies a major step forward in strengthening the economic and logistical ties between the two neighboring countries. The project is poised to enhance the flow of goods and people, thereby fostering greater trade and cooperation within the region and across the EU.

The development is particularly noteworthy for Alexandroupoli, a strategically important port city in northeastern Greece.
