EU fisheries ministers to meet in Cork

Fisheries ministers from across the European Union are convening in Cork, Ireland, for a significant two-day informal meeting. This gathering is a key event during Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The meeting is part of Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the EU and the plenary session will be chaired by Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon.

Ministers will discuss strategies for the sustainable development of the EU's fisheries and aquaculture sectors. A particular focus will be placed on encouraging generational renewal within these vital industries.

At the plenary session in Cork City Hall on Wednesday, ministers will discuss how the EU can sustainably develop its fisheries and aquaculture, as well as generational renewal in both sectors.

The meeting also includes participation from EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, and the Vice-Chair of the European Parliament Fisheries Committee, Paulo Do Nascimento Cabral. Delegations from all EU member states are present, highlighting the collaborative nature of the discussions. As part of the agenda, ministers will also take a tour of Charles Fort in Kinsale, a historic 17th-century military fortification located at the entrance to the scenic Wild Atlantic Way.
