European Football’s Big Leagues, in 10 Major Transfers

The transfer market has reshaped several of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Manchester City leading the spending spree in midfield. After Rodrigo Hernández’s departure, City signed 18-year-old Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille for 95 million euros, then completed a late move for Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández.

Fernández joined City for 145 million euros, a record transfer in English football. Before that, City had paid 135 million euros for Crystal Palace midfielder Elliot Anderson, 23, who started the club’s first three matches of the season.

Chelsea brought in Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a reported fee that made him the summer’s most expensive player until Fernández’s move. The 24-year-old midfielder has started the English league campaign with a goal and an assist under coach Xabi Alonso.

Paris Saint-Germain signed Ferran Torres from Barcelona for 40 million euros to strengthen its attack.
