Everton rescue 2-2 draw against Manchester United with stoppage-time equalizer

Ainsley Maitland-Niles struck in the sixth minute of added time to rescue Everton a 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Manchester United twice took the lead, but Everton refused to stay behind. Bryan Mbeumo opened the scoring shortly after halftime, curling a powerful shot from outside the penalty area into the bottom-left corner. It was his second league goal of the season.

Everton responded in the 83rd minute when Hayden Hackney found Tyrique George inside the box. George fired into the top-right corner to make it 1-1. Six minutes later, Luke Shaw's lofted cross found Benjamin Sesko, who headed United back in front.

The visitors appeared set for three points until Maitland-Niles collected a rebound in stoppage time and curled a spectacular effort into the top-left corner. The former Arsenal full-back scored his first Premier League goal since December 2019, just days after joining Everton from Lyon on transfer deadline day.

The draw leaves Manchester United 11th with four points from three matches. Everton are eighth with five points. United had threatened early, including when Bruno Fernandes hit the crossbar with a first-time effort in the seventh minute. That strike marked United's 24th shot to hit the woodwork since the start of last season, more than any other Premier League side over that period. The result also came during a turbulent transfer week for Everton, who lost Iliman N'Diaye to Manchester City and Beto during the window, while a late move for Folarin Balogun collapsed.
