Ex-lawmaker warns against violence ahead of Osun poll

Ahead of the Osun State governorship election, former lawmaker Olatunbosun Oyintiloye is urging political parties to ensure their supporters embrace peace and refrain from violence. Oyintiloye, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, stressed that no political ambition should result in the loss of any citizen's life.

Osun voters must not allow fear to discourage them from exercising their civic rights. They should come out in large numbers to vote.

Speaking amid rising political tensions in the state, Oyintiloye cautioned against allowing fear to deter citizens from exercising their constitutional right to vote. He also advised residents not to be alarmed by the significant deployment of security personnel, explaining that the measure is intended to prevent crises and ensure a secure electoral process. Such deployments, he noted, are common during elections and can be based on available intelligence.

Oyintiloye encouraged Osun voters to remain calm, vigilant, and courageous, emphasizing that their participation is essential for sustaining democracy. He expressed concern over reports of violent attacks and killings linked to political activities, assuring that security agencies are working to address the situation. Oyintiloye stated that anyone violating the law, regardless of political affiliation, should face legal consequences without impunity.
