Osun APC, Accord trade allegations as three shot during rally

A street rally organized by the Ilesa West Local Government Area chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ilesa, Osun State, was marred by violence on Saturday, resulting in at least three injuries from a shooting incident. Among those injured was 14-year-old Tobi Ilesanmi, reportedly shot near the Isokun area.

Three persons are confirmed injured, and they were taken to different hospitals. From the reports we have, they were shot at the rally scene.

The incident has triggered a blame game between the APC and the Accord Party. The Osun State Police Command reported that Amotekun Corps operatives, traveling in a vehicle with an official Osun State Government number plate (OSHAO4), emerged from the car and fired shots sporadically. This led to panic and a chase by rally participants, during which one suspect reportedly drew a knife and escaped.

Following the incident, the Osun State Commissioner for Environment, Mayowa Adejoorin, was apprehended. Police operatives intercepted his vehicle, a white Lexus 350, as it was leaving the area. An Amotekun personnel was found inside the vehicle with Adejoorin, and both were brought to the Osogbo headquarters for questioning regarding their involvement.

There was a rally in a part of Ilesa by the APC. The rally was on when they discovered a vehicle parked beside them bearing a particular plate number, OSHAO4, and some people identified as Amotekun personnel came out of the car and shot sporadically, and everybody ran for safety.

Police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed that three individuals sustained injuries and were taken to different hospitals. He stated that the Amotekun personnel and Adejoorin were apprehended by Intelligence Response Team operatives who responded to the distress call. The investigation aims to determine the extent of their involvement in the shooting incident.

On intercepting the vehicle, they saw an Amotekun personnel in the vehicle. So they apprehended the vehicle, the personnel and one other person in the vehicle. They brought them straight to the headquarters here.
