Ex-Reps Member Declares Gombe Governorship Ambition

A familiar face in Gombe politics, Khamisu Mailantarki, has once again thrown his hat into the ring for the governorship, this time seeking the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Having previously represented the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and contested the governorship in 2023, Mailantarki brings a known track record to his latest ambition.

Everyone in Gombe, especially those in Gombe North, knows his performance when he was in the House of Representatives. They saw the work on the ground. He is not new in Gombe politics. Insha Allah, when the PDP chooses him, he will bring the needed development to the state.

His campaign, represented by Adamu Bappa, highlighted Mailantarki's past performance, assuring the PDP secretariat that his election would usher in much-needed development for the state. This declaration signifies a significant move within the PDP's gubernatorial aspirations for 2027, as he joins at least two other aspirants who have also signaled their intentions.

So far, we have three governorship aspirants. We have received similar declarations of intent from two other members. We want peace and unity among our aspirants because that is what is needed to defeat our opponents.

The PDP State Chairman, Major General Abnor Kwaskebe (retd.), received the declaration with a call for peace and unity among the aspirants. The party leadership stressed that a credible primary election process would be employed to select a candidate capable of challenging the ruling party. The focus now shifts to the internal dynamics of the PDP as they prepare to select a flagbearer who can unite the party and present a formidable challenge in the upcoming gubernatorial race.
