The Ministry of Health in Chile has confirmed the dismissal of Carla Kepec from her role as the regional health secretary (seremi) for the Arica and Parinacota region. This decision comes after reports surfaced linking Kepec to a recruitment process that allegedly prioritized political affiliation with the Republican Party, thereby violating principles of equality and merit in public employment.

The controversy erupted following an investigation by the media outlet El Mostrador, which exposed WhatsApp messages circulating within President José Antonio Kast's party. These communications allegedly showed Kepec, who is also a member of the Republican Party, seeking to fill technical vacancies within the regional health service based on ideological criteria. One message reportedly stated: "I need two medical technologists specializing in laboratory work for my health service to join the LabSal department. Republican or son of a Republican, please send your resume to arica@partidorepublicanodechile.cl."

In response to the widespread dissemination of these details and the ensuing criticism regarding the use of public office for partisan purposes, the government requested Kepec's resignation. The Ministry of Health issued a statement expressing gratitude for Kepec's service while reaffirming its "unrestricted commitment to compliance with the norms and principles governing public service."
