Exercise Bougainville 2026 officially opens

Exercise Bougainville 2026 officially commenced at the Officers’ Mess at Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua, marking a significant national effort to test Fiji's preparedness for crises. The exercise brings together government guests, defense partners, and various agencies to simulate responses to natural disasters and other emergencies. Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua highlighted the exercise as a vital investment in Fiji's ability to coordinate and remain resilient in the face of diverse threats. Tikoduadua emphasized that Fiji confronts a growing array of challenges, including natural disasters, cyber threats, cross-border crime, maritime security concerns, and public health emergencies. He underscored that an effective response hinges on robust cooperation, clear communication channels, and seamless information sharing among all involved agencies. The primary goal of Exercise Bougainville 2026 is to foster teamwork and accelerate decision-making processes. This initiative aims to ensure Fiji can address complex national crises with a unified and clear approach, strengthening its overall security and disaster management capabilities.
