Two Die in Navua Collision as Fiji's Road Death Toll Reaches 31

A tragic three-vehicle collision in Navua, Fiji, on Wednesday afternoon resulted in the deaths of a 70-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman. The victims were traveling in one of the vehicles involved in the crash.

According to police, the collision occurred when a vehicle allegedly veered into the oncoming lane. Four individuals traveling in the other two vehicles sustained injuries and received treatment at Navua Hospital before being discharged. The bodies of the deceased have been transported to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

This incident brings the total number of road fatalities in Fiji to 31 for the year. This figure is slightly lower than the 39 deaths recorded during the same period last year. Authorities are reiterating their calls for increased road safety awareness and responsibility among motorists and the public.

Police have identified several key factors contributing to fatal crashes this year, including speeding, careless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, pedestrian errors, improper overtaking, and driver fatigue. They urge all road users to exercise greater caution to prevent further tragedies.
