Fake police scam busted: Suspect arrested after stealing 1.5 million lira

Authorities in Samsun, Turkey, have apprehended a 25-year-old suspect in connection with a sophisticated scam that targeted a 48-year-old citizen. The perpetrator posed as a police officer to deceive the victim into handing over a substantial amount of cash and jewelry.

The fraudulent scheme unfolded in the Atakum district, where the scammers instilled fear and panic in the victim by falsely claiming their identity information was being used by a criminal organization. Under the guise of a fictitious investigation, they instructed the victim to hand over approximately 1.5 million Turkish lira in valuables and cash to an individual who would visit their home.

Following an alert, the Samsun Police Department's Anti-Fraud Bureau launched an investigation. Their efforts led to the identification of the individual receiving the assets as M.C., aged 25. A coordinated operation with police in Çorum, where the suspect was located, resulted in his arrest.

During the operation, police recovered all the stolen assets, including jewelry and cash, valued at roughly 1.5 million Turkish lira. These items are being held for return to the rightful owner. The investigation into the scam is continuing.
