Fatal accident at "Latraps" grain complex under investigation

A tragic accident at the "Latraps" grain pre-processing complex in Eleja has claimed the life of a young seasonal worker. The incident, which occurred recently, involved a tractor and a pedestrian. The State Labor Inspectorate (VDI) and the State Police (VP) were immediately notified and have initiated thorough investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatality.

According to police reports, a 39-year-old man driving a tractor collided with a 15-year-old youth. The younger victim sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The State Police have opened a criminal investigation to determine all contributing factors to the accident. The VDI has dispatched inspectors to the site to gather evidence, interview employees, and examine relevant documents.

"Latraps" has temporarily closed its Eleja grain pre-processing complex following the incident. The company's board chairman, Roberts Strīpnieks, expressed deep condolences to the victim's family, relatives, and colleagues. "This is a tragedy that should not have happened. We will do everything possible to help ascertain the circumstances and support the victim's family," Strīpnieks stated. The VDI also extended its deepest sympathies to the young man's loved ones.
