Father and sons arrested for arson at former Athens Badminton Theater

A fire that caused extensive damage to the former Badminton Theater in Goudi, Athens, has led to the arrest of a father and his two sons. Authorities identified the three men after analyzing security camera footage that captured their movements in the area shortly before the fire broke out.

According to ERT, the footage showed three vehicles departing the scene minutes before smoke became visible. The first vehicle, a van carrying sheet metal and metal objects, is believed to have loaded materials removed from the abandoned building. Two other vehicles followed, and all three were later seen leaving the area. This visual evidence was crucial in identifying the occupants.

Authorities utilized the video material and other preliminary investigation data to issue arrest warrants. The three accused were apprehended in the Alsos Ilision area. Reports suggest the men were burning cables to extract copper from them, but the fire got out of control and spread, resulting in severe destruction to the former theater.

Charges of arson have been filed against the three men. They have been handed over to the prosecutor and have been granted a deadline to provide their testimony to an investigating judge.
