Father arrested in Surabaya for allegedly abusing daughter for three years

A disturbing case of alleged child sexual abuse has surfaced in Surabaya, Indonesia, with the arrest of a 48-year-old man, YS, by the Polrestabes Surabaya. The suspect, who works as an online motorcycle taxi driver, is accused of repeatedly abusing his own daughter over a span of three years. According to police, the horrific acts began when the victim was in the first year of junior high school and escalated to intercourse by early 2025. Authorities revealed that YS exploited moments when his wife, who is a homemaker, was out of the house, such as attending religious gatherings, to carry out his assaults. The victim reportedly remained silent for years due to intense pressure and threats from her father, only finding the courage to report the abuse to the police in April 2026. Police have stated that YS's primary motive appears to be sexual desire, despite his marital relationship being described as normal. The suspect claims to have lost count of the exact frequency of the abuse but estimates it occurred routinely, perhaps once or twice a week. The case is being processed under Indonesia's new laws concerning sexual violence, with the suspect facing charges under the Law on Criminal Acts of Sexual Violence and the Criminal Code.
