Fayemi, others celebrate late Bishop Adebiyi's legacy

The passing of Bishop Awelewa Adebiyi, the pioneer Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Lagos West, has been marked by a series of heartfelt tributes, highlighting his significant contributions to the church and Nigeria. Former Governor Kayode Fayemi lauded Adebiyi as a quintessential Ekiti indigene who made considerable sacrifices for the progress of the church and the nation.

The public presentation of the book “My Name is Peter,” authored by veteran journalists Dare Babarinsa and Wole Adeyemo, served as a poignant occasion to celebrate Adebiyi's life and work. The event also saw the institution of the Bishop Adebiyi Foundation, a testament to his enduring commitment to theological education in Nigeria.

Bishop Adebiyi is remembered not only for his spiritual leadership but also for his dedication to the welfare and academic growth of the priests under his charge. Many described him as a great theologian passionate about their progress, with a notable record of encouraging postgraduate studies among them. His resilience was particularly noted, recalling how even a traumatic attack by armed robbers did not deter his commitment to doing good and impacting lives.
