FC Barcelona signs American forward Stanley Umude through 2028

FC Barcelona has secured its sixth signing for the upcoming season with the acquisition of American forward Stanley Umude. The 27-year-old, who can also play shooting guard, has agreed to a contract that runs until June 30, 2028.

Umude arrives at the Palau Blaugrana after a stint with the Austin Spurs in the NBA G-League, where he averaged 16.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game over 32 appearances last season. His versatility from the perimeter is expected to bolster Barcelona's lineup.

This move represents Umude's first foray into European basketball. Notably, he holds Nigerian citizenship, which will enable him to be registered as a local player in the Spanish Liga Endesa, avoiding the use of an international player slot. Umude has prior experience in the G-League and has played 48 NBA games, primarily with the Detroit Pistons, and also appeared for the Milwaukee Bucks, with whom he won the NBA Cup in 2024, and the San Antonio Spurs.

The Catalan club highlighted Umude's defensive capabilities, his mobility in defensive switches, intensity in one-on-one situations, and his athletic profile that allows him to run the floor and score effectively, particularly in transition. He is the sixth new addition to the team under the prospective leadership of coach Aleksander Sekulic, whose own appointment is yet to be officially confirmed by the club.
