Federal Government and Morelos to Rehabilitate Tepozteco Hill Trail, Enhancing Visitor Safety

The governments of Morelos and the federal administration are collaborating to rehabilitate the trail leading to the summit of Cerro del Tepozteco, a significant archaeological site located in the Pueblo Mágico of Tepoztlán. This initiative prioritizes enhancing the safety and civil protection conditions for the numerous visitors who ascend the hill.

Governor Margarita González Saravia announced that the project plans have been submitted to the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), given the site's archaeological importance. The rehabilitation aims to address current trail conditions, particularly focusing on safety and emergency preparedness, to ensure a more secure access route to the Tepozteco pyramid.

González Saravia highlighted that Tepozteco is one of the most visited sites year-round, underscoring the necessity of improving its infrastructure. This effort is part of a larger plan involving 1,234 actions across cultural, tourism, sports, and urban development sectors to restore public infrastructure. "The recovery of spaces also generates an important perception of security," she stated, emphasizing how revitalized areas foster better community interaction and strengthen social cohesion.

In addition to the Tepozteco trail, the governor detailed other cultural investments, including over 32 million pesos for 12 interventions. Notable projects include the Museo de la Independencia, Sitio de Cuautla, which has seen significant visitor numbers since reopening, and the ongoing renovation of Cine Morelos. The administration aims to ensure all 36 municipalities have a cultural center.

Separately, Governor González Saravia confirmed that President Claudia Sheinbaum will visit Morelos on September 3 as part of a national tour reviewing her administration's progress. Morelos will be the first state visited on this tour. The governor is also scheduled to attend the presentation of Sheinbaum's Second Government Report at the National Palace on September 1.
