Felony Charges Filed Against HEDNO Manager Over Deadly Rethymno Fire

A criminal prosecution, classified as a felony, has been initiated against the network operations manager of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO) in connection with a devastating fire in southern Rethymno. This blaze tragically claimed the lives of two firefighters and caused extensive destruction to tens of thousands of acres of land, properties, facilities, and livestock.

The accused, identified as an electrical and mechanical engineer, is not the head of HEDNO in the Rethymno region. The charges brought against him are for arson by omission, indicating a failure to act that led to the fire. He has been granted until Saturday afternoon to present his defense.
