Greece: Massive Evacuation by Sea as Fire Ravages Viotia Village

Dramatic scenes are unfolding in Agioi Theodoroi, Viotia, Greece, where a major fire erupted on the morning of July 31. An urgent operation is currently underway to evacuate residents and tourists from the coastal area by sea. The Hellenic Coast Guard's Operations Center is coordinating the effort, aiming to safely transport individuals from the beachfront. Five private vessels, a tugboat, and a fire brigade ship are actively participating in the sea evacuation. A Coast Guard patrol boat and an additional fire brigade vessel are en route to the scene. Simultaneously, coordinated actions involving the Coast Guard, Fire Service, the Region of Central Greece, and the Municipality are in progress to ensure the safe removal of those remaining in Agioi Theodoroi. Reports indicate that approximately 50 people are expected to be transferred by sea to a safe location in the Livadostrata area. The fire has caused extensive damage, with images from the village of Kalamaki showing apocalyptic scenes.
