FG hails Kano’s 32% education budget, 16,000 teacher recruitment

The Federal Government has lauded Kano State's significant commitment to education, commending its allocation of 32% of its budget to the sector and the recruitment of 16,000 teachers over three years. Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa described this as one of the boldest human capital development investments by any state administration in Nigeria.

You are the most important people in our society. If we have good teachers teaching Nigerian children, we will produce very good students. Please take your time, love them, nurture them and teach them well. That is how we can derive full value from the opportunities that the Governor has given you.

During a ceremony in Kano, Alausa presented appointment letters to 4,900 newly recruited teachers and 3,688 facilitators for the Better Education Service Delivery for All program. He urged the beneficiaries to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, stressing that quality teachers are paramount to building a globally competitive education system and producing responsible citizens.

Alausa highlighted Kano's Governor Abba Yusuf's focus on education, noting that the state's substantial budget allocation demonstrates a genuine commitment to human capital development. He contrasted this with other states where teacher recruitment has stagnated for decades, praising Kano's initiative as a model for national development.

In some states, no single teacher has been recruited in decades. Here in Kano, the Governor has employed 16,000 teachers in just three years. This is what human capital development looks like. These are investments that will produce responsible citizens who will serve Kano State, Nigeria and the world.

The minister also applauded Kano's investments in educational infrastructure, including smart schools and new secondary schools, as well as urban renewal projects. He stated that these efforts align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's development agenda, showcasing what is achievable when education and citizens' well-being are prioritized in governance. Alausa inspected the Tarda Smart School, reiterating the Federal Government's commitment to expanding technology-driven learning nationwide.
