FG sends Passport intervention team to UK to clear pending applications

Nigeria's Federal Government has deployed a dedicated Passport Intervention Team from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) Headquarters to the United Kingdom. This move is part of ongoing efforts to streamline and expedite passport application processes for Nigerian citizens residing abroad.

As part of the exercise, the intervention team will visit designated cities across the United Kingdom to conduct passport enrolment and processing, thereby enabling eligible applicants in different parts of the country to access the exercise.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, directed the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, to assemble the team. Scheduled to arrive in the UK on August 10, 2026, the intervention team will collaborate with the Nigerian High Commission. Their mission is to facilitate the processing and issuance of pending, new, and renewal passport applications.

The team plans to visit designated cities across the UK to conduct passport enrollment and processing. This outreach aims to make the service accessible to eligible applicants in various parts of the country. The NIS stated that the intervention is open to individuals with pending applications, first-time applicants, and those whose passports have less than a year remaining before expiry and wish to renew.
