Fiji simplifies national budget with new guide for citizens

Fijians can now gain a clearer understanding of how public funds are managed, thanks to the launch of the Citizens’ Guide to the National Budget 2026–2027.

This initiative aims to make the national budget more accessible, transparent, and inclusive for all citizens across the country. The guide is available in three languages: English, iTaukei, and Hindi, ensuring a wider reach and comprehension.

The initiative ensures every citizen can understand Government priorities and how budget decisions impact their daily lives.

Minister for Finance, Commerce and Business Development Esrom Immanuel stated that the guide empowers every citizen to understand government priorities and how budget decisions directly impact their daily lives. He emphasized that the initiative goes beyond mere translation, offering an opportunity for Fijians from all backgrounds to engage with national financial decisions.

The 2026–2027 National Budget, themed “A Responsible Budget for a Sustainable Future,” was developed following nationwide consultations and reflects public aspirations. It places a strong emphasis on responsible financial management and sustainable economic growth. The Citizens’ Guide was a collaborative effort, developed with support from the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts, and the Ministry of Finance’s Fiscal Policy team.
