Financial Literacy and Inclusion Gap Remains Wide, Jambi Students Educated Early

Indonesia faces a substantial gap between financial literacy and inclusion, with a national survey revealing a 14.02% disparity. To address this challenge, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) is actively promoting educational initiatives, identifying students as a key demographic for early intervention.

Danamon, a financial institution, has partnered with the OJK and Suria Harapan School in Jambi to implement a financial literacy program. This initiative, themed "Learning to Manage Finances Early for a Better Future," aims to equip young Indonesians with essential financial skills.

The program, held on July 28, 2026, was attended by high school students, teachers, and school representatives. Notable attendees included Helmiyani, Deputy Head of OJK Jambi Province; Thamrin Tambunan, Regional Corporate Officer for Danamon's Sumatra region; Iqbal Maulana, Danamon's Sustainability Finance Head; and Agus, Head of the Suria Harapan School Foundation.

This collaboration supports the OJK's Regulation No. 3 of 2023, which mandates financial service providers to play an active role in enhancing financial literacy and inclusion. Helmiyani emphasized the importance of such partnerships between regulators, the financial industry, and educational institutions. She highlighted that these collaborations are crucial for teaching students wise financial management from an early age and fostering awareness of risks associated with illegal investments, online loans, and online gambling.
